Born and raised on Maui, Joanna watched her journalist mother snap photos for local newspapers. Taking photography classes at Baldwin High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Joanna learned the techniques of the art of photography. Utilizing top professional equipment, Joanna’s work has been influenced by the rich texturing of documentary photographers such as Joe Buissink. The elements of sea, sky and land renew and inspire her; she is especially drawn to the dramatic forms found at Makena Beach and in Iao Valley. During her own outdoor wedding, she learned the importance of a sensitive photographer who can attune to the needs of the bride.
